The Mirror dinghy version of the Transition rig had its first outing on
30th November 1999 (Teign estuary, high tide, wind force 2-3). Generally the rig worked
well - none of the components broke! - although some of the controls need improving to
make them easier to use when sailing...
raising the folded rig
a single lever mechanism elevates the mast at the mast foot and extends
the joints of the middle and upper segments of the mast at the same time
rig partially extended
rig extended
the lever locks into position along the bottom of the dinghy
sailing
the degree of extension of rig and its forward/aft tilt can be tuned
during use as required. During tacking and gybing the middle segments of the mast are
rotated across to the appropriate side to ensure that the lower part of the sail has a
good aerofoil shape. Other controls on the dinghy are conventional.
